20 Top Tips for Groom Style

Don't rush into anything!
Do some research first to gain an idea of the look or theme you and your partner want to achieve for your wedding. Have a look through wedding magazines, attend wedding shows or simply browse online for inspiration.

Set a realistic budget
It's important to budget for your wedding outfit so you don't spend too much. Also consider who will be paying for the groomsmen outfits.

Will each person be expected to pay for their own suit. If this is the case ensure that they are aware of this to avoid any misunderstandings later on.

Start shopping!
Start your shopping process atleast 6 months in advance of the wedding. This will give you plenty of time especially if you're having something custom made such as a waistcoat or suit.

The same applies if you are hiring an outfit as you might need to make alterations which take time.

Traditional wedding attire
If you are having a traditional wedding then you should wear a morning suit which consists of a black morning jacket, grey stripe trousers, wing collar shirt, waistcoat and cravat.

Get yourself measured
Get yourself accurately measured for everything from waistcoats to suits. Don't buy anything tight fitting. It may give you bulges in all the right places but it is guaranteed to become uncomfortable after all that nuptial nosh and those bottles of bubbly!

Wedding shoes
Buy your wedding shoes at least a month before your wedding and wear them in as you don't want to be begging the chief bridesmaid for elastoplasts at the reception. Not very manly.

Co-ordination
Co-ordinate your outfit to your Bride's by asking her for small details about her own dress.

Shirt Style
An ivory shirt looks better than a white one which can often look like something you would wear to the office.

Evening Reception
Dinner Suits and black tie suits are generally reserved for formal evening do's, although they are popular for Weddings in the U.S and abroad.

Waistcoat rules!
Always leave the bottom button of your waistcoat undone - but don't ask why!

Buttonhole
Your buttonhole should be made of the same flowers as your bride's bouquet.

Neat neckwear
If you're wearing a cravat, ensure you wear a high-necked waistcoat so that the cravat can be tucked in neatly with minimal fear of escape.

Perfect Fit
Make sure your trousers are the right length, neither too long or too short and that the sleeves of your jacket allow for an inch of the shirt cuff to be seen.

The Contemporary Suit
Morning wear is not the only suit. Take on board every style of jacket available - from a lounge suit to a frockcoat or Nehru-style jacket but, above all, wear something you will feel comfortable in.

Accessories
For a more complete look, select accessories that add a touch of class.

Grooming
Indulge in a bit of male grooming and treat yourself to a professional shave and manicure.

Shiny Shoes
Polish your shoes the night before or the morning of your wedding.

Rest Up
Get an good night's sleep to ensure you don't look tired on your big day.
